Do you know everything about Project Zomboid? I don’t think so. Whether you are a seasoned player or just starting out, Project Zomboid features a lot of different items, details, and in-game lore, you as a player might not know about. Keep on reading to learn more about these 19 insane details you might’ve not known about before, or you just haven’t come across yet.
1. Umbrellas actually keep you dry
When you spend time outside in the rain you will be soaked and wet, and you might catch a cold, as you’re dropping in temperatures much quicker. What a lot of players don’t know is that if you equip the umbrella it works as a portable shelter, shielding you from the weather and keeping you dry. It is not the most effective weapon, but it can still be used in fending off zombies. Especially in the early stages of the game when you might not have access to any weapons.
2. You can counter the trait short-sighted with glasses.
Did you know that using glasses actually counters the short-sighted trait? Picking the short-sighted trait does sacrifice a small amount of your max-view distance, as well as slightly blurring your vision when foraging and searching for items. This will allow you to pick some easy positive points creating your character, just find some glasses and you will cancel out the blur while foraging. However, be sure to not trip and fall, or you might lose them.
3. You can do your own plumbing for clean water.
Like the Mario Brothers you can fix your own plumbing in Project Zomboid. You just need a wrench and to be able to craft a water barrel on the second floor just above said sink. This needs to be in a 3 by 3 area above the sink and this will give you clean and filtered water instead of gathering water through multiple buckets and pots scattered on the ground.
4. Eating with a spoon.
This was one of those things I didn’t know until pretty recently, and is just a fun little detail to the game. If you have a spoon in your main inventory your character will actually use the spoon in the animation instead of you eating straight out of the can.
5. You can’t move between the front and the back seat of a police car.
If you find yourself in a struggle, being chased by zombies and jumping into the back seat of a police car might not be the best idea. You might be in deep s*it if that’s the case. Why? Well, because it’s a police car you are not able to move or jump between the back and front seats, as these cars have protection bars to protect you from all the bad guys. Just be sure to keep attention to what car you try to escape in, is all I’m saying.
6. You can apply makeup on your character
However, you will need a mirror to be able to do that. A bathroom mirror or a portable one will suffice for you to apply those rad warrior makeups, scaring off all the spooky zombies trying to kill you.
7. Your hair and beard grow as time goes by.
During your time in Project Zomboid you will notice that your hair and beard actually grows as time passes. Your beard and hair will grow longer and with that you can put your hair up in a ponytail or make other sort of hair styles.
8. You can use a scissor to cut your hair, as well as use a razor to shave
Who said you can’t look fashionable and representable even during a zombie apocalypse? Nobody. With that said, your hair and beard will be growing and you do have the ability to cut it. To be able to do that you need to find a pair of scissors where you can change your hair and beard style. Fight the zombies with style!
9. The emergency broadcast tells you about upcoming events
Be sure to check radios you find for the Emergency Broadcast frequency. This frequency is new for every play through and you need to find it every time you start a new game. There’s a huge benefit of listening into the Emergency Broadcast as it will give you information about upcoming events in the world, such as the weather and other sort of meta events. Things like when the power and water shuts off amongst other lore details.
10. You need to find a watch to tell time
To be able to tell the time you need to actually wear a watch on your arm, you can pick which arm to wear it on. There’s different sort of wearable watches being digital or normal watches, where the digital ones also tell the date as well as the temperature.
11. Clothes get progressively more bloody and dirty as you kill zombies
During your endeavors through the world of Project Zomboid your clothes will get progressively more dirty and bloody. This when you wade through the depths of the woods as well as killing and fighting zombies. You are also able to clean off all of the dirt from yourself as well as your clothes in nearby
12. Use the same doorknob and keys together when crafting new doors
Did you know you can disassemble a door you have the key to, then use the same doorknob to build a new door? As long as you have the same doorknob you collected from the disassembled door when crafting your new door, the same key will work together with the same doorknob on your newly created door. I know. Completely mind blowing. Amirite?
13. You can sterilize bandages by boiling them in water
This is another detail of the game that I learned recently, I thought the only way to sterilize bandages was through using alcohol or bottles of disinfectant. To my surprise I learnt you are also able to do this using a pot with water together with bandages or ripped sheets. Just boil them in hot water and you will get some fresh and sterilized bandages at your disposal, which I’m sure you will need.
14. There’s different animations for fitness and strength based on your skill level
Depending on your level of fitness and strength your character will show different types of animations. The more strength and fitness you level up your character will go through the exercises easier and easier. You will be weak and tremble in the beginning, then building up to more and more strength showing in your movements.
15. Don’t use a generator inside
You will die. Well, just like I said. Don’t do it. You will die from the fumes. Nothing more to say.
16. You can replace broken windows with new ones
I find it interesting that this is something a lot of people didn’t know about. You need level 2 in crafting as well as a crowbar to be able to pick up and bring any window with you. They are heavy to bring along, but it’s nice to be able to switch out broken windows and also add nice looking windows to your base, after a horde of zombies have crashed through.
17. You can freeze food to make it last longer
Just like in the real world, you can actually freeze the food in the game to make it last longer. Gather a freezer from your local gas station and be sure to power it properly or you will have a bad time.
18. Battery powered lamps are a thing(?)
I’ve actually never done this or used this in any of my playthroughs, but if I knew about it earlier I would’ve done it much sooner. You need to level up electrical and you are then able to craft battery powered lamps instead of relying on finding a generator to power your lights. This can be very beneficial as the generator does have a limit in terms of range. So next time you need a light, consider crafting some battery powered lamps.
19. If you get bit by a zombie, you can heal yourself by drinking a bottle of bleach
When you get bit, be sure to find some bleach, chug it all down and you will be instantly cured…No…sorry, just kidding, please don’t drink bleach, you will die instantly! It’s just water in a bleach bottle, I promise! I just needed one more thing to make the title more interesting, 18 didn’t sound as appealing as a title. Anyway.
